What are zip screens and how do they work?
Zip screens are outdoor sun protection systems where the fabric is secured in the side guides with a zipper. This zipper keeps the fabric taut, even in windy conditions. You operate a zip screen electrically via a switch, remote control, or an integrated control system that automatically adjusts the screens based on sun, wind, and time. Because a zip screen is mounted on the exterior, heat is blocked before it reaches the glass. This significantly reduces indoor temperatures and limits the need for cooling. Indoor sun protection allows heat to enter first before attempting to block it. On the exterior facade, zip screens perform this task before the heat even reaches the glass.
Why are zip screens wind-resistant up to wind force 9?
Zip screens from De Haan Westerhoff are wind-resistant up to wind force 9 because the zipper holds the fabric securely within the side guides. While many sun protection systems must be retracted during strong winds, our screens can remain lowered. This makes zip screens a reliable sun protection solution for high facades and buildings in open areas, such as office towers or schools on the edge of urban developments. Consequently, the sun protection remains functional for most of the day, thereby reducing the building’s cooling load. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities for your facade.
